The first fair on markets and gastronomy “Mercat de Mercats” in Barcelona (between the Cathedral Avenue and Santa Caterina Mareket) closed with an outcome of 180,000 visitors and 40,000 tasting tickets sold during the weekend.
Everyone who took part in it agreed to say that this festival was “a success and an initiative that should happen again”, as the Barcelona City Council informed in a communiqué.
Mercat de Mercats was the third of the gastronomic festivals and market fairs conceived by the European project MedEmporion, led by Barcelona –together with Torino, Genève and Marseille– within the framework of the program by Med of the European Union.
Among the activities, “Cuina de Mercat” was especially outstanding: 12 restaurants in Barcelona became improvised tapas bar. The chosen ones were Saüc, La Torna, Kiosko Universal, Àvalon, Bar Veldòdrom, Koy Shunka, Quim de la Boquería, Comerç 24, Lluçanès, Bar Nuri, El Suquet de l’Almirall and Cuines de Santa Caterina.
