Ferran and Albert Adrià today sponsored the Tapa Solidaria project, the objective of which is to combat children’s poverty and social injustice by earmarking 0,50 € from each tapa sold at any of the sixty restaurants in Barcelona that have joined this initiative. The project aims to help the social action by the entity Casal d’Infants —Children’s Centre—, with more than twenty-eight years working in favour of the underprivileged quarters, and featured the main bait of the Adriàs brothers.

The Tickets restaurant, property of Albert Adrià, was the venue for the presentation of this initiative that will last until January, when the closing ceremony will take place in Sergi Arola’s restaurant in Hotel Arts.

“We are living a difficult moment and, if we are the privileged, we must help our neighbours”, stated Adrià in his speech. El Bulli’s chef declared that it is in people’s hands to make a “pragmatic” effort in this sense. He also asserted that the gastronomic sector always joins these initiatives. “The challenge we all have is to do much more creative things not demanding time effort, because we don’t have such time, but an intention effort”, the Catalan chef expressed.

The Casal d’Infants reminded that one out of every four children is poor, that is why he emphasized the importance of collaborating on Tapa Solidaria. The Mayor of Barcelona, Xavier Trias, also attended the event and praised the work by the non-profit making entities that assert their experience in this “serious” economical crisis time. Trias stated that the city council will have to revise the budget in order to cut out “unnecessary things” and “redefine the priorities” of the consistory through these kinds of organizations.

The profits of the initiative will be earmarked for the projects that give support to the quarters with children, young people and families living in a situation of social isolation.
