A total of 32 Rioja Alavesa wineries showcased their wines on Monday November 7th in the Barcelona Hotel Majestic, with the goal of promoting the work of a new generation of producers that are living in complicated times.

The event brought together close to 500 professionals from the world of gastronomy and enology, and once again demonstrated the potential of small wineries with long histories of family tradition in the viniculture sector; all of them full of dynamic professional and family projects that strengthen this new batch of producers.

The Director-General of ABRA (Association of Rioja Alavese Wineries) Inés Biagorri Uribe, explained the importance of currently organizing this type of event, in such complicated economic times, since “they allow the wineries to finance their product and provide direct contact between the professionals and the client”, apart from supporting the Maitre profession.

Biagorri also emphasized the respect that this new generation of young people shows towards wine growing, its history, and its philosophy of livelihood and production, which perfectly combine tradition and evolution.

Apart from the Showroom organized in the Hotel Majestic, the association previously organized a wine and food pairing in the restaurant Loidl (advised by Martin Berasategui), with Agustí Peris as head sommelier of the wine matching. A lunch supported by the presence of the deputy of Agriculture of the Álava Autonomous Council, Borja Monje, the advisor of the Basque Government Ministry of Agriculture, Dani Solaro, and the president of the ABRA, Carlos Gaona.

Also noteworthy is that since its foundation in 1990 the Association of Rioja Alavesa Wineries (ABRA), has gradually increased its task of representing the sector at the same time that it has achieved the highest number of associated wineries, currently reaching one-hundred twenty-seven, and with a production surpassing thirty million liters of wine per year.
